There is no doubt that the Zimbabwean Dancehall arena is filled with talent, though sometimes it’s controversial. Dancehall artists do not shy away from difficult topics, be it love, politics and their daily hustle. Dobba Don is one such character who has brought the spotlight to his music and more so loved by many. With his beautifully unique, completely unlike voice and catchy lyrics, he really is an amazing dancehall artist. Exposé caught up with this youngster to talk about his musical journey.
Who is the person behind the title Dobba Don?
Born Byron Dumalisile Mehlomakulu on the 23rd of June 1994 in Ruwa, Harare, he is known to his legion of fans as Dobba Don. Bryon lives in Mufakose and attended school in several areas including Glendale and Ruwa.
Dobba Don started music when he was in the third grade and growing up, his favourite musician was the late Tongai Dhewa Moyo. He started recording and taking his career seriously when he was 16 years old. He has over 100 songs most of which are yet to be released. As an artist, he does not only sing dancehall but is versatile.
Dobba Don rose to fame with the hit songs Mudendere and Mukuru which quickly captured the masses and became hit tracks in the Zimbabwean air waves. He has a number of singles such as Mwana wenyoka, Cheu Cheu and many others. He has shown that he is everyone’s favourite by having a number of collaborations with different artists such as Tammy, Queen Vee, Takura and Brian K.
In his spare time Dumalisile enjoys watching movies and comedy sitcoms. He enjoys traveling and has been to the United Kingdom, Botswana, Australia and South Africa. He is grateful for the success he has started to enjoy in spite of the challenges being faced in the music industry. Dobba Don has big dreams and aspires for his music to go international.
