#SelfLove – The Mixologist Interview

She has introduced various trends and made the art of cocktails known and available, owing to the spectrum of people. She is a chef by profession but crafting cocktails has become the world to her. Ashler  has mastered the art and she is very good at coming up with different concepts for cocktails at various events and crafting any venue into a spectacle of colour and fun. Her organisational skills make it easy and flowing while you enjoy yourself at an event with a cocktail. Ashler shares with the team how being a plus size in her industry has affected her work.

“Being in the industry, you get people passing comments that are nasty. There are people who will say ‘We trust your food because you are big and again, they assume that you are big because you eat a lot. They are ignorant of the fact that at my former workplace they thought I couldn’t do anything because I was big until I had to prove myself capable. It’s not always easy, but you need to have thick skin. It used to bother me, but now I am just, like, going through this journey of self-love and I have to accept myself for who I am. So, if someone asks about my weight I am like, ‘it bothers you and not me’. I am still learning and I still have days so I have to take each each day as it comes. Everyone can be so hurtful, including your friends and family. They say things. So I am learning everyday, but I have accepted myself. I went through a phase where I couldn’t board a taxi because of things people say. If you talk back they will attack. If you keep quiet they will say more things. Sometimes, having caring people around you helps. My sister has my back, and having such people who love me makes it easy for me.  In the end, I have to live my life”
